Say “No, thanks” to Store Plastic Bags and Re-use Your Own

Posted by: Diar Adhihafsari In: Uncategorized

How many plastic bags you got from shopping in supermarkets or small shops that you store in one of your kitchen cabinets (or wherever it is)? Or do you throw those plastics right after you get home from shopping? It’s such a brand new knowledge for me, those global warming and living green stuff. That producing plastics needs so much petroleum (while petroleum, of course, cannot be grown again and harvested every now and then), for instance. Or that plastics are not biodegradable — they need hundreds of years to be decomposed.

I’m not usually a person who’s in to the newest trend, when it deals with fashion and stuff. But this time, that the trend deals with living in and creating an eco-friendly life, hey, I’m in! In my 101 list, you can read several going-green things I have done (and still put them on practice) and plan to do.

In terms of shopping, I suppose I’m having a nice (and a bit greener) progress. For the very first time, I asked a cashierperson to put in the goods I bought inside a reusable cotton bag. Yes, now I shop by bringing my very own reusable shopping bag :)

Well, it doesn’t have to be a cotton bag, actually. If you still keep some plastic bags, why not bring them for shopping? When you use one new plastic, a new material is used. But when you re-use your own one plastic, a new material is still saved. Which one do you prefer?

I choose a cotton bag as the plastics stored at home are the small and medium-sized ones. I use the big plastics especially for my working bag only. It’s not water resistant, so when it’s raining, I must wrap my bag with two (BIG) plastics so that they keep the (BIG) bag dry. That’s all.

So have you saved the use of plastic bags (and petroleum) in your day-to-day life?
